One question that comes up frequently is: "Who is exempt?" Here is what the law says: NEW SECTION. Sec. 105. A new section is added to chapter 18.88B RCW to read as follows: The following long-term care workers are not required to become a certified home care aide pursuant to this chapter. (1) Registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants or persons who are in an approved training program for certified nursing... (read more)

I told you I wouldn't fill up your email and here I am blogging again, but I'm getting quite a few questions about the hiring process and fingerprints.  The DSHS has good information on their site.  You can go to DSHS Background & FBI Fingerprint information  and it will give you everything you need.  The form you will need to fill out for fingerprints is available at that site. Basically, you will still run a background check at the time of... (read more)

Thanks to all for your patience and support.  Orientation and Safety are now online and ready to roll!  Please let me know if you experience any difficulties so I can fix them quick. I posted them as two separate classes because some folks are doing their own orientation.  I will be posting a blended offering in the next week (Orientation and Safety will be combined). But first things first. I used the DSHS curriculum to the letter so all the... (read more)

Hey, everyone!  It's 3:30am and I am nodding over my laptop trying to get the new Orientation and Safety up online by tomorrow.  But sleep is winning the battle.  I am getting close and still believe it will be up online before the day ends tomorrow, but probably not first thing in the morning.  Preparing an online class is not much different from making a movie.  It seems to take hours of development to produce a few minutes of production! ... I thought it might be helpfull if I gave you some links that you will need related to the new training requirements. The first link is to the Department of Health's web page for Home Care Aides.  At this site, you can download the Home Care Aide application packet and find out information about the associated fees. http://www.doh.wa.gov/hsqa/HCAides/default.htm The next link is to the Prometric site to apply for testing and gather additional... We have converted a two bedroom home into the center. We will be able to offer computer terminals for those who wish to take the online training, but do not have regular computer access. And we will have a fully outfitted training lab complete with mannikin simulators and a completely... (read more)

For those of you who were around and paying attention last year at this time, it was a bit of DejaVue.  For those who weren't, it may have come as a shock!  Today, the Department of Health and Department of Social and Health Services co-hosted a three hour webinar to review the upcoming changes to training requirements for "long-term care workers." Initiative 1163 requires the laws that were developed via I-1029, be put into service 60 days from... (read more)

Hey, everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!  We are gearing up to deal with the new training requirements again.  With the passage of I-1163 we are going right back to where we were last year at this time. The training requirements that had been postponed until January 2014, now go into effect January 7, 2012.  They are exactly the same as they were last January.  The only new thing is that FBI fingerprinting will be starting... I've been looking into using social media as a way to spread the word about the great caregiving training and consulting services we have available.  I've been a Facebook user, but had not explored Twitter.  I finally did and it is AMAZING!  You can follow us if you like @RobinVanHyning.  See you there......  Robin
