Here We Go Again!Published by robin on Tue, 2011-11-22 09:21
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are gearing up to deal with the new training requirements again. With the passage of I-1163 we are going right back to where we were last year at this time.
The training requirements that had been postponed until January 2014, now go into effect January 7, 2012. They are exactly the same as they were last January. The only new thing is that FBI fingerprinting will be starting at the same time.
We were approved for all of the curriculum last year and will be ready to roll for you again on January 7th, 2012. You can find detailed information at the DSHS web page located at:
Click on the link below to go to that web page:
In brief summary, you will need to have a DSHS contracted instructor teach:
- 5 hrs of orientation and safety to your new caregiver staff before they have regular access to residents. (We will have that available online before Jan 7th and we can teach it on-site if you prefer.
- 75 hours of training to be able to apply for the Prometric exam
- Part of the 75 hrs must include "Core Basic" - taught by a DSHS contracted instructor
You will have 120 days from the date of hire to complete the 75 hours, but only 150 days from the date of hire to have the "Home Care Aide" certificate in hand. Which means you will need to have all the training completed much sooner as it could potentially take 4-8 weeks to get admitted to the certification exam after training is documented.
I know it can get really confusing. I am available by email or phone to help answer any questions you may have. Our goal is to make your life easier.
One last VERY exciting bit of news......it looks like we are going to be leasing a training location in Burlington right off the freeway at the Hwy 20 exit. This will provide one location with scheduled dates that you can count on to meet your training needs if you are located in the northern counties. More to follow on that...
And one more thing...we are going to offer our 75 hour curriculum for purchase for those who have the ability to do in-house training, but do not want to develop your own curriculum. Please give me a call if you are interested.
